October 21 – Uzbek Language Day
October 21 – Uzbek Language Day
On October 21, 1989, the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the State Language” was adopted. It would not be an exaggeration to say that this law was the first step taken by our people at that time for independence. The articles of the law stipulated that “the state language of the Republic of Uzbekistan is the Uzbek language” and that the languages, customs and traditions of all nationalities and ethnic groups residing in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan should be respected.
The adoption of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Establishing the Day of the Uzbek Language Holiday” on April 10, 2020 was a matter of great concern and a dream for our people. With this law, October 21 is widely celebrated in our country every year as the “Day of the Uzbek Language Holiday”. The prestige of a nation is determined by how widespread, perfect, popular, rich and pure its language is. In this sense, it is worth saying that our native language - Uzbek - is one of the dozens of languages in the world that have preserved, refined and survived for centuries, preserving its purity and unique features. Our native language has been recognized internationally as the pride and glory of our nation. In particular, the fact that our President delivered a speech in Uzbek at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, which was held online in 2020, and at the recently held 78th session, further increased the prestige of our native language in the international arena.
